Gardening is both a rewarding hobby and a therapeutic way to connect with nature, whether you're tending to a small balcony garden or a sprawling backyard oasis. With the right tips and tricks, anyone can cultivate a thriving garden that brings beauty, fresh produce, and a sense of accomplishment.
We asked some of the bad ass gardeners in our lives to give us the down and dirty details on how to EASILY tackle that yard this year. This guide offers practical insights to help both first-timers and seasoned gardeners this season.
Favorite Tools
Weed Popper - If you're weeding without one of these, you're a masochist. This may be a small tool but it's a HUGE help, especially with those weeds that have deep, thick roots. Use this to dig down the weed root a little and place the root in that little notch, then push down on the handle and watch that weed come popping out of the ground! See ya!
Hand Trowel with Serrated Edge - Invest in a good Hand Trowel. You'll use this as long as you own a yard/garden/window box. Get one with the serrated edge and carry around one less tool as you work through your yard.
Small Pruning Clippers - perfect for cutting flowers for your arrangements, bouquets, etc!
Also great for cutting the “x” in the bottom of branches so they can suck up water in your vases. I use these for everything!
Another option that came highly recommended: Gardener's Supply Pocket Snips.
Twine Dispenser - Love this tote! It holds your twine and clippers (and phone!) while you’re tying up your sweet tomatoes, peas, clematis...any top heavy flowers that need support.
Tips & Tricks From The Experts

"My watering hack! I just discovered this. Use a condiment bottle to water those delicate little starts or your indoor plants when you want to get at dirt level."

"First year in home, don't pull anything out unless you're sure it's a weed. You'd be surprised what grows."

"Know your amount of sun and shade in the yard before choosing plants and shrubs. And read those labels."

"Ground cover spreads a ton! Be sure if you plant any, it doesn't have runner roots."
"Fertilize every two weeks for plants and flowers."
"Don't use weed killer unless it's organic."

"Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps weeds at bay."

"The more perennials the better. Less work and money in the long run."
My personal fav- the hostas and the hydrangea!!

A sort-of-perennial disguised as an annual: Snap Dragons.
"These are officially 'annuals'. But...Plant these in your yard, then in the fall let them die, dry out and go to seed. Don't touch them until early spring. By then they will have dropped their tiny seeds in the nearby soil. When the new starts come up, rip out the old dead ones. Repeat each year."
