Veteran Stylist (and Her Daughters') Approved Hair Products

My mom (otherwise known as Glammy) has been in the hair business for 34 years, both as a beautician and on the retail side. That means my sister and I have been spoiled since elementary school with the best hair products, a beauty shop connected to our house growing up (which had a tanning bed at the height of the 90s tanning trend) and our own personal stylist ready to cut or color whenever the urge popped up (which is why, between the two of us, we've had every style and color of hair).

Glammy was recently visiting and we went into our local beauty supply store and thought we would share some of our family's most tried and true products, and believe us, we've tried them all. Here is the real deal on our thoughts and what we are buying on the regular.

Amika's Perk Up Dry Shampoo

Most popular selling dry shampoo at the beauty store Glammy works at. Great smell and does exactly what it says it will do. An essential for basically everyone.

Pravana's Intenese Therapy Leave-In

Great for detangling. A must-have for little girls with long hair who hate a brush and comb.

Mira Nila's Pure Volume Shampoo

This is a new line with a great smell that gives great volume!

Surface's Violet Shampoo or Conditioner

Our absolute favorite purple blonde hair brass buster. There are a lot on the market, but this is the one we're grabbing every time. Can be used as needed, not each time you wash if you aren't that brassy. If you are coloring your hair blonde this is a must- either in the shampoo or conditioner...or both.

(Just don't travel with it in a suitcase. I learned that lesson the hard way.)

Pureology's Nanoworks Gold

This one is pricey, but if you want buttery, soft hair, it's worth its weight in Nanoworks Gold. When my hair is feeling dry and frizzy, this is what is going to fix me up! Since it is pricer I love having this in my shower and using weekly or for special occasions instead of daily.

Amika's Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment

For those of us who are lazy about putting a mask on our hair this is the product to get. Put it on your dry hair before you go to sleep and you can wash it the next day, or magically, just leave it in! We've all had great second day hair after using this the night before.

IGK EXPENSIVE Clear Gloss Top Coat

This is a new add for us in 2024 and we do not add a lot of products to this list of our most favorite. You use this after you shampoo and conditioner and leave it in your hair for about 3 minutes before rinsing it out. WHOA! Talk about shiny and smooth hair. I'm in love with this stuff!
