Hello! I’m Brooke’s friend, Erika. And I'm back here to babble about books we're reading. This month we've got one from the best sellers lists out there, as well as one that is over a decade old...but that's the point. Hope you find something worth diving into this month.
As always, if you have something you think the Babble team ought to dive into, let me know by emailing me at erika@babblewithbrooke.com.
What I Read in February
BOOKS:
This book... It's been on "best seller" and "top reading" lists since it came out last year. I finally read it and I truly wish I'd opened it sooner. What a delight! I immediately fell in love with these characters. I laughed. I cried. I wanted to go to this hotel and hang out at this wedding! This book is a treat. Enjoy!
My little book club read this in February (month of love, so we went with a romance). This wasn't too heavy or salacious. And I liked that the main character, Nora, is a 40-year-old divorcee with two kids...and she finds someone to love. Nora's journey is complicated (expected with any mom in their 40s) and sweet. This book was a wonderful escape.
Station Eleven was published in 2014. This is important because this book is about a global pandemic and the aftermath. Emily St. John Mandel nails it. I didn't think I would want to read about this subject (yet). But the fact that she wrote this years before COVID-19 gave me chills throughout. The characters are vivid and fascinating. Having lived through a global pandemic, it was interesting to read what our world could have looked like had it been much worse.
(Note: This was made into a limited series on HBO/Max in 2021. I have not watched it.)
Last one...
I'm still not sure about this book. I've always enjoyed Lucy Foley's books (The Paris Apartment is still my favorite of hers). She stuck with her standard format of varying character POVs and a murder mystery. And there is one hell of a twist! It was a good book. I love a good "who-done-it." But this is probably my least-favorite of her books.
What's coming in March…

I'm hitting the best seller lists hard next month. Plus Chelsea Handler's new one. See you next month! -Erika
