Finding Your Personal Style Pt. II the Spring Style Edition

Now that we’re shedding our sweaters in favor of warmer-weather tops, our boots for loafers, and our heavy winter coats are being left behind for lighter jackets, let’s talk spring closet refresh!

If you haven’t already, take a few moments to read through this post about finding or rediscovering your personal style. This is the perfect time to overhaul your wardrobe, IMHO, because: out with the old, in with the new, and all that shit. Maybe you feel like I do – as though you are coming out of a lovely book-laden, cozy blanket hibernation and need softer, lighter textures, something bright and cheery, something that makes you feel like, well, like a human again.

Welp, today, I am sharing a few of my very favorite places to shop (and a few pieces I'm loving this spring from those places), just in time for all your spring and summer planning.

I firmly believe that a gal should figure out what works for her shape, size, and style. Years ago, Oprah liberated me from the silly notion that I ever need to wear a pair of shorts again. I have stayed mostly true to this, apart from the occasional cut-offs while camping or river shorts while rafting. For me, in the warmer months, it’s skirts, jumpsuits, linen pants, and dresses. I don’t love how shorts feel or look on my body. So why bother? I mention this as a liberating tale only because it hadn’t occurred to me that I could simply choose not to wear shorts in the hot summer months and not sweat my ass off. #youliveyoulearnorwhatever Thank you, Oprah. I think of you often.

Let's dive into the stuff we all care about: Where to find some fantastic gauzy layers, breathable sweaters, and smart trousers that won't overheat you on those sunburst days or freeze you out on those chilly and windy spring afternoons and evenings.

You've likely come across Everlane sometime in the past few years. Admittedly, about half my closet is Everlane. They just make some really fantastic basics. Classic cuts and colorways, great quality and ethically made. Their jeans and trousers are fab, their cashmere sweaters are fluffy and glorious. You really can’t go wrong.

I do find that I can be underwhelmed by the product images on their site, but once I get the pieces home (even better if you can shop in-store), they become some of my favorites to wear. Definitely check their reviews section as many times reviewers will attach a photo so you can see people IRL.

I LOVE these high waisted linen trousers and have them in several different fabrics and colors. Here is an Amazon dupe.

These heeled sandals were new last year, and are ridiculously comfortable to walk in. The leather is buttery soft. They have several more color ways this year available too. Find a dupe here.

This brand blasted onto the scene a while ago screaming about $50 cashmere sweaters. So I bit. And I have to say, everything I've purchased from them has been top-notch. The quality is great, and I've been googly-eyed since my first purchase.

I've been loving this Alpaca Wool Cardigan, although I wear it as a shirt, not a cardigan. Again, they've put this sweater in some really lovely colors. It's super soft, warm and breathable, and incredibly chic.

This linen scoop neck dress is so lovely and understated. Surprisingly, the white version is opaque enough that a bra or nippies is not needed. I found a couple of versions on Amazon that I like that you can check out:

The drape of this dress is so lovely. It's a jersey dress, so sure to be comfy, but the cut and style of it ensures you can dress up or down. Throw a leather jacket on top, and you're good to go for a night out or a Saturday farmers' market.

While this one can be hit and miss for me, I find that some of the pieces I have from them I've had for many years and love wearing them.

This sweet scalloped knit top could easily make that list. I'm a sucker for stripes and the sweatshirt-like cuff around the waist is nice with a high-rise jean.

Another linen wrap dress. I won't apologize. Wrap dresses work for so many different body types, I feel so strongly in my heart that every woman should have one. Pay attention to the way the skirt is cut, though. This one flutters nicely, which gives curves if you don't have any and enhances them if you do. I also love this one from Amazon that comes in so many prints and colors.

If you haven't yet, try Mango and their outlet. They have some absurd sales and you can find some really decent things. Keep in mind, you can also find a lot of strange clothing and style choices. So shop with discernment.

Let's talk about jumpsuits. I used to be wary of them because I have a long torso and let's just say it: The situation a jumpsuit can cause… well I'm still processing childhood trauma of rompers in places they shouldn't be. However, I absolutely LOVE a jumpsuit. They can be so fabulous, so chic, so comfortable. Somehow they look effortless and just effing cool, with heels, with sneakers, with boots, with sandals. (I absolutely adore Alex Mill jumpsuits. Some might even say that at this point it is bordering on an unhealthy addiction. If you haven't already, check them out)

This one from Mango is at a price point that is palatable. I love the color. Not quite sage, not quite beige… would we call it seige? Find a dupe here.

Heidy is an avid reader, an enthusiastic wine drinker, and a sometimes-hiker. You can find her rafting one of Idaho’s rivers with a magnetic force of a man (her husband), dancing in the kitchen with her two babes — Remington and Clementine — or finding a warm patch of grass on which to read or quietly muse. She drinks coffee every morning and dreams nearly every night.
