This is such a fun and unique idea for Christmas with your kids this year!

My friend Romy concocted the best idea when she and her family with young kids had to travel over the holidays. It is so hard to maintain all of the traditions and manage all of the expectations of when and where the big man in red is going to be and what he is going to deliver when you also have to account for what will fit in an already overflowing suitcase.

Romy's family lives in Idaho. But a few years ago they were going to be in Alabama on Christmas morning. She wanted her kids to have a little Christmas in Birmingham and a little Christmas in Idaho when they flew back, where Santa would be delivering their gifts. But how do you manage both, without breaking the bank AND making sure you aren't hauling seven suitcases out for a quick trip? Here is where the brilliance and magic of Christmas (and a rad mom) comes in...

Around The World

To make their holidays more believable, the kids got letters from Santa on Christmas morning that said:

"I looked all over the world for you two! I picked up a little something at each location while I was searching to give to you when I finally found you! Your gifts will be under your tree when you get home."

In their stockings in Birmingham were candies and treats from all over the world that had been purchased at the local World Market.

Have you ever shopped their international food section? It's so much fun! Especially so around the holidays when they have the cutest treats and trinkets from so many different areas of the world. Romy's kids' stockings were filled with items from Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. Not only was this a fun and delicious Christmas morning but - mom bonus! - it was also a geography and cultural lesson too! Win win!

I love this creativity and would personally love to try all these treats from all over the world! And you don't have to be traveling this year to use this cute idea with your kids. All you need is a little note explaining that Santa picked up treats from around the world on his way to your house. And then find a local World Market, or similar store - or really, you can find just about anything on the internet these days (Amazon!). What a great way to make Christmas extra special!

Thanks for sharing Romy!
