Well it’s that time of year (or is it just year round now?) when we all need a little boost in our immunity to fend off the season’s colds, flus, covid and whatever else is lingering out there.  (Thanks kids...school...daycare...guy at the office who should probably be home in bed right now...)

My good friend just got back from spending the holidays abroad and her entire family came down with something.  She works in the medical field so she really knows what is going on and how to handle it. But this one really got her down.  Another friend of hers dropped off some homemade "immunity bomb" pucks and my good friend credits them for helping her finally turn a corner and start to feel better.

She asked for the recipe, made her own batch and shared it with all of us so we can make our own little golden nuggets and be ready for whatever comes at us.

Also, what a great thing to drop off to a sick friend!

Immunity Bomb Pucks Recipe

Ingredients for Pucks:

  • 6 lemons, peeled and seeded

  • 4 pieces of ginger, cleaned well (she said you can peel it or not, she did not)

  • 4 pieces of turmeric, cleaned well (can substitute with 2 Tablespoons of ground turmeric- same with the peeling of the ginger, up to you, but not necessary)

Drink Prep:

  • 1 cup hot water

  • Honey to taste

Directions:

Toss the lemons, ginger, turmeric and water into a blender/food processor and blend until combined.

*A little note on not peeling the ginger or turmeric, I always peel my ginger for recipes so I was a little leery about leaving it on, but she gave me a few pucks of hers when I wasn't feeling well in a batch that she had not peeled them, and I would've never known. Long story short, don't waste your time.

I had to ask if you can buy turmeric and she sent me this picture.

Blended goodness.
Blended goodness.

Next:

Once you have your blended orange goodness, freeze it in ice cube trays. When frozen solid, pop them out and just dump them into a freezer ziplock or freezer-safe container and save until needed/wanted.

This are good in the freezer for about a month.

When you are ready to use, put one or two pucks into a mug and fill with hot water. Stir in honey to taste, let it melt and enjoy the soothing, citrus sensation. Drink it with a spoon handy...just to keep mixing the small amounts of pulp.

Get started on yours today...BEFORE you need them! When you and/or your family comes down with that nasty bug, you'll be SO glad to find these in your freezer!
