I have the best nostalgic memories of my grandmother in her "house dress." The dress was usually in her favorite shade of lavender and we would spend the day together gardening, catching butterflies, cooking and cleaning up, or snuggled on her davenport with a root beer float. She always looked put together and classy, but not dressed up. She could easily do any of her household activities in her house dress.

Over the past few years I've found myself thinking more and more about how wonderful a house dress is. In the dead heat of summer when we have had multiple days of over 100 degree temps I just want to put on the lightest, most breathable fabric dress in my closet and not have to worry about being constricted by pants or figure out an entire outfit. Just slip it on and get on with my day. It certainly looks more put together then the cut off jean shorts and tank top I would normally turn to, and I want to feel ready for any activity that pops up - an appointment, grocery shopping, a friend that stops by, a walk with the dog or even a happy hour if my husband gets off early from work.

Needless to say I was thrilled when I heard of the new "Napping Dress" trend! Finally! I get to put an updated name on this smart tradition I have been coveting.

"I just want a casual dress that I can wear all day without feeling or looking fancy."

Well here we are! I rented an Anthropologie "Napping Dress" that I've been eyeing from on Nuuly and it was...Love. At. First. Sight! I wore it on the perfect Saturday for all of my events and activities, quickly realizing I would've changed outfits multiple times that day, but the Napping Dress worked for every single activity. First I biked to a breakfast brunch with girlfriends, I just tied-up the corner of my Napping Dress with a hair tie for the bike ride. After brunch we biked to a tomato and pepper sale and an open house and then home to do some gardening. After all of that I decided to test out the activity it was named for and literally fell asleep reading a book on my sunporch. It was perfect (although not the most flattering of photos).

"It is easy and breezy, where comfort meets style and laid-back sophistication."

It sounds cheesy but I literally felt more in touch with my femininity and also with my late grandmother and the ladies who came before me. I thought about my grandmother throughout the day and also fielded many compliments of the dress. It is unexpected now to see a woman just casually wearing a dress, but I would highly recommend trying it.
